Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the United States. Personally, I have many family and friends who I have lost to heart disease. Each year, I add another person to walk in memory of. So, this year, to add to my list of my grandfather Zimmerman, my grammie Richards, my Uncle Steve, and my friends Carolyn Fitzpatrick and Jocelyn Mejias, I sadly add my high school friend Josh Pierie. All of these people I care so much about passed from heart disease.
An estimated 90% of cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, are preventable. However, cardiovascular disease remains the #1 killer and the most expensive disease, costing nearly $1 billion a day. Now is the time to take ownership of your health!
As a mother of a teenage son, I want to make sure I am instilling heart healthy habits to him and I want to do everything I can to remain healthy myself to watch him grow up!
