Ten years ago, I lost my son Wayne far too soon to heart disease. His passing was completely unexpected and left a hole in my heart that will never heal. Since that day, I've walked for him—to honor his memory and to raise awareness about the importance of heart health.
Last year, I was diagnosed with AFib (Atrial Fibrillation), a condition that runs deep in my family. Now, I walk not only for Wayne, but also for myself, my family, and my future. I’m determined to stay healthy and be here for the people I love.
We all have a connection to heart disease or stroke—whether it’s through personal experience or the experiences of those we care about. In my case, I thought I was safe because heart disease was something “only others” in my family had faced. I was wrong. And that’s why this mission is so important.
