Hi, my name is Jon Holstein. I am a heart disease survivor. I am sharing my story because I want to tell people about keeping your heart healthy.
I was born with a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. Tetralogy of Fallot affects blood flow through the heart. When I got upset, I would be out of breath and my skin would turn blue because my blood did not have enough oxygen. These are called Tet Spells.
When I was 5 months old, I had heart surgery at WVU Children?s Hospital. Dr. Gus did my surgery. The doctors and nurses took good care of me. I have a big scar down my chest that I call my Brave Scar. My heart doctor checks my heart to make sure it is doing alright.
I went to Camp Mountain Heart this summer. This camp is for children who have heart disease like me. I had an amazing time and made many new friends.
Thank you for helping me be a Heart Hero!
