This year Wyatt turned 9! 9 years of loving this amazing kid, celebrating everything he loves and never taking a moment for granted.
Wyatt was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) in June 2016. We were fortunate enough to find out his diagnosis at our 20 week ultrasound, when the ultrasound tech thought she saw something different with his heart. From there we jumped into finding the best place for his care and what to expect with an HLHS diagnosis. It was a no brainer that we chose the Cadiac team Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Hansrote as his cardiologist and Dr. Spray as his surgeon.
He has been incredible each step of the way. By the age of 4, he already kicked butt in 3 open heart surgeries and soared past everyone's expectations. He was a typical 4 year old, loving hockey and baseball, dinosaurs and playing with his friends at school. We were lucky enough to not have any intervention until the summer he turned 8!
And truly 9 has been fine! Wyatt's playing Spring and Fall Baseball, and Ice Hockey over the winter. He also enjoys horseback riding with his sister, wants to start playing golf next year and was selected to play the snare drum for his elementary school band. And YES. He still loves dinosaurs!
The American Heart Association has truly been a positive voice throughout our journey. Always focusing on the positive for those with CHD's and creating a welcoming environment for those looking to lead a healthier lifestyle to prevent heart disease.
Please join us this year as Homers for Hearts hits the zoo again!
