Background and Purpose: The Links, Incorporated established the Health and Human Services facet to confront chronic health disparities affecting black communities, which contribute to lower life expectancy among African Americans and people of African ancestry. The facet is dedicated to advancing programs that maintain good health and eliminate disparities through education, health advocacy, and effective use of health resources.
The HeartLinks Initiative: For over 30 years, the HeartLinks Initiative has inspired members and the communities they serve to actively combat heart disease. The initiative offers strategies and resources for implementing heart-healthy programs, including the Walk for Healthy Living Program.
Walk for Healthy Living Program: This program motivates Links members, families, and communities to improve overall health through walking. Physical activity is a cornerstone of long-term well-being. The organization supports this by hosting walking events during the last weekend in September and challenges participants to reach 10,000 steps daily.
Community Collaboration: This year, the Harrisburg (PA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is taking a new approach by joining an established event hosted by a national partner: the Capital Region Heart Walk. The Heart Walk raises funds and awareness for cardiovascular disease and has already generated over $150,000 for the cause. The H-Burg HeartLinks team is registered to participate, inviting members, their families, and friends to contribute to this meaningful endeavor.
Event Details: There is no registration fee, but the goal for our group is to raise $250 for the cause. The event will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 5 PM on Harrisburg's City Island. All are encouraged to join in fellowship and support those affected by heart disease
