Her Brother’s Heart Stopped Without Warning. Now She’s Taking No Chances.
Lisa was 48 when she first came to see me. Healthy, vibrant, no symptoms—just a strong family history of heart disease. I offered her advanced cardiac risk testing to fine-tune her prevention plan. She declined. Nothing seemed urgent at the time.
Three years later, she came back—shattered.
Her 45-year-old brother had gone on a camping trip and never returned. His wife heard a strange sound from the porch and found him unresponsive. CPR was started, but by the time help arrived, he was gone.
No known symptoms. No warning signs. Just... gone.
Their father had survived his own heart attack in his 40s because he got the right care. Her brother wasn’t so lucky. Now Lisa wanted answers—and she wanted to live.
With tears in her eyes, she said, “I’m ready now. I want to do everything I can. I’m not ready to die.”
I reassured her, held her hand, and told her what I tell so many grieving hearts: “None of us know how long we get. But your soul didn’t come here to live in fear. It came here to love, to connect, to live.”
This is why I walk.
As a board member for the American Heart Association and a cardiologist who sees stories like Lisa’s every week, I’m walking to raise awareness, fund lifesaving research, and ensure more people get the care they need before it’s too late.
If Lisa’s story moved you—or if you have your own reason to walk—I’d be so grateful for your support.
Will you donate to my Heart Walk fundraiser?
Every dollar helps prevent the next heartbreak.
