2026 Vermont Heart Walk
Team Chloe
On February 14th, while playing in a North Country Community College basketball game, Chloe's heart suddenly stopped and she collapsed on the court.
Thanks to the swift administration of CPR and the use of an AED, Chloe survived sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
After many days in the hospital, the cause of Chloe's SCA is still being investigated, though testing did show fibrosis (scarring) on her heart. Chloe is 19 years old and a very talented college athlete. Until this event, she was healthy and had no problems with her heart. Those who suffer from sudden cardiac arrest are at increased risk for it occuring again. Due to this risk, Chloe's Cardiology team placed an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) while they continue to search for more answers on how she developed this condition.
Statistics show that 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. While Chloe is still recovering from her SCA, we are all so grateful that she is still with us today, and has been given the chance to continue living the beautiful life she deserves.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, and athletic fields/courts. The readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every walker who joins and every dollar donated, means more people will become trained in lifesaving CPR; more research will be done; and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
