My little sister Amber is my reason.
Amber was born with a congenital heart disease called pulmonary atresia. Growing up, she faced countless surgeries, procedures, and hospital stays. We were told that children with her condition often did not live past the age of five. Yet Amber kept fighting. She grew, she laughed, she lived, and she became the light of our family well into her twenties.
After years of stability and adjusting to a “new normal,” life changed again. In the early hours of June 25, 2025, at age 29, Amber suffered a sudden heart attack at home. My brother-in-law performed CPR until help arrived, doing everything he could to keep her here. We later learned that only 1 in 10 people survive what she went through.
Amber was that one.
She lost oxygen to her brain for over 20 minutes and spent more than 30 days on life support, fighting her way back to us with a strength I will never forget. The day she opened her eyes again was a blessing I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
I walk because CPR saves lives.
I walk because research and training make miracles possible.
I walk because my family was given another chance.
I walk for Amber.
I walk for every child born with heart disease.
I walk for every family holding on to hope.
