9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
I have joined team Walking for Sarah Katz to honor my friends Jill and Mike's daughter Sarah, and in support of all the incredible work they have done to ensure proper labeling of energy drinks, and all their other heart smart public education efforts.
It is also not lost upon me that after surviving three cancers, Tom inexcusibly lost his life due to endocarditis, a heart valve infection that could and should have been recognized and diagnosed by his doctors before it was in too late to cure.
Unlike many of the other major causes of death in America, it is the lack of awareness and education, not science, that makes heart disease fatal. I am walking to raise money to fix this!
*Please note that I blew my knee out and may not be able to actually walk, but am asking you to support this effort regardless, in any way that you can.
