This year, I will be participating in the Maine Heart Walk on behalf of Hannaford and the American Heart Association in honor of my father and my partner who each have a heart condition.
In August of 2017, my dad nearly lost his life to an extremely unexpected and rare heart condition called Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). This has led to multiple emergency open-heart surgeries, revisions and rehab visits for him. It's been a battle for sure, and this has changed his life forever in a way that none of us ever saw coming. This condition is usually found in young women, so that puts added stress on my importance to get healthy for my future. Although there is some good, he informed me the doctor who assisted in his case is just about to publish a book regarding their research and findings on this rare heart condition with my dad as the catalyst, so he's already indirectly helping save lives!
My partner has an aortic aneurysm which is hereditary and was dormant but got triggered after a serious car accident back on Valentine's Day of 2023. His day-to-day life has leveled out some, however I know it's something that he reflects on and thinks about often enough to have given me the "if something happens" talk. This shouldn't be how life is as a 34 year old man, fearing death may just come in an instant and take everything away.
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives. Early detection is key in these disorders and diseases, so any bit of help is wholeheartedly welcome and celebrated.
Thank you for your consideration and help!
