I’ve proudly supported America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk for many years by participating in the walk and the Treadmill Challenge. This event means so much to me because it supports the American Heart Association and the life saving research and education that makes a difference for families every single day.
Heart disease isn’t just a statistic to me, it’s personal. My grandfather underwent lifesaving open-heart surgery. My father-in-law survived a heart attack. My mom lives with atrial fibrillation. And more recently, I found myself wearing a heart monitor and starting medication for a high heart rate. These experiences are always powerful reminders that heart disease can affect anyone, at any stage of life.
When I look around at the people I love, it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t been touched by heart disease in some way. That’s why I'm so proud to participate in this event to honor my family, to raise awareness, and to support research that gives more families hope and more time together.
This year, I’m once again participating in the Treadmill Challenge and I'd like to spread a simple but powerful message: just 30 minutes of movement a day (like a brisk walk!) can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease and many other chronic illnesses. THIRTY MINUTES! That’s it. A walk around your neighborhood. Time on the treadmill. Movement that strengthens your heart, lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol, reduces stress, protects your long-term health...and makes you more happy! I promise!
I invite you to join me by donating, participating, or simply committing to 30 minutes of movement each day. Let’s take steps (literally!) together to protect our hearts and the hearts of those we love.
