Last September, my family lost my uncle unexpectedly to cardiac arrest. He was a deeply respected paramedic—someone who dedicated his life to saving others. It’s something you never think will happen so close to home, especially to someone who spent their life responding to emergencies—until it does. That loss changed how I think about heart health, awareness, and just how critical those first moments can be.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital don’t survive, often because CPR isn’t started right away. That’s something we have the power to change—together.
I’m walking not only in memory of my uncle, but also because I’ve seen firsthand how staying active can make a difference. As someone new to working an office job, I’ve become even more intentional about prioritizing my health—both physically and mentally. Movement has been a huge part of that for me, and it’s something I’m passionate about continuing.
I’m walking to honor my uncle, to take care of my own health, and to help create a community that’s ready to act when it matters most.
