From Survival to Purpose
In a moment, everything can change.
On October 10, 2018, what started as a normal day at school turned into a life-or-death emergency. While participating in a tug-of-war competition with my students, I suffered sudden cardiac arrest. I had no warning signs, no diagnosis, and no idea I was living with a rare heart condition.
My heart stopped three times on the way to the hospital.
Paramedics had to defibrillate me three separate times to bring me back. I was placed on life support, and my family was told I had only a 2 percent chance of survival.
But by the grace of God, I survived!!!
I was later diagnosed with ARVC, a rare genetic heart condition that can trigger sudden cardiac arrest, especially during physical activity. Many people who have it never know until it’s too late.
My life was saved because people were prepared.
Someone made the call.
First responders had the tools.
Help came in time.
That reality changed everything for me.
Today, I am using my story to help others. As co-founder of T.R.I.N.I.T.Y., a nonprofit serving youth and families, I help lead the Heart Strong Initiative, which focuses on heart health awareness, CPR and AED education, and building communities that are ready to respond when seconds matter.
I am also becoming CPR/AED certified so I can equip others with the same lifesaving skills that saved my life.
The Heart Walk is personal for me.
Every step taken and every dollar raised helps ensure more people are trained, more communities are prepared, and more lives are saved.
This is more than my story.
It is a reminder that anyone can be the difference â¤ï¸
