Matthew's story is one that will always remind me just how strong the human spirit can be.
Matthew was born with a heart condition called pulmonary stenosis, and from the very beginning, his journey was anything but easy. The doctors weren't sure he was going to make it. But Matthew had other plans.
He has faced several heart surgeries throughout his life, overcome challenges that most of us could never imagine, and somehow kept moving forward with that same strength and determination.
Today, he is a thriving 24-year-old living what we jokingly call a "normal" life—whatever normal really means, lol. He has a full-time job, dreams, responsibilities, and a life of his own.
When you look at Matthew today, you might never know just how much he has overcome. But we do. And that makes watching the man he has become even more incredible.
From a little boy doctors weren't sure would survive, to a strong, independent 24-year-old living his life... Matthew is proof that sometimes the biggest fighters are the ones who never stop fighting.
I'm so incredibly proud to call him my brother.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital don't survive. Most of the time, it's because no one nearby performed CPR. But together, we can change that.
Extraordinary things happen when people take action. A small step. A simple skill. A lifesaving moment. Heart Walk brings communities together to create health and hope for every heartbeat. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
Extraordinary starts with YOU. Help me reach my goal today!
