My Heart Walk Story
For 40 years, I have been proud to serve the community through Carilion, spending my entire career in cardiology. Caring for heart patients has never been just a job for me, it has been a lifelong passion and calling.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work in many areas of cardiovascular care, including 20 years in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and 10 years in Cardiac Research. These experiences allowed me to witness firsthand the impact that heart disease and stroke have on patients and families, while also seeing how advances in research, education, and treatment continue to save lives.
My dedication to heart health extends beyond my professional career. For more than 25 years, I have proudly volunteered with the American Heart Association, supporting its mission to improve cardiovascular health and reduce the impact of heart disease and stroke in our communities.
One of my favorite fundraising efforts began more than 10 years ago when I started an annual softball game between Carilion and LewisGale Hospital. What started as a friendly competition has become a meaningful tradition that brings people together for a great cause. We have shared countless laughs, built lasting friendships, and raised valuable funds to support the American Heart Association's lifesaving work.
Supporting the American Heart Association and participating in the Heart Walk are important to me because I have spent my life caring for heart patients and promoting heart health. Every dollar raised helps fund research, education, advocacy, and programs that make a difference for people facing cardiovascular disease. I am honored to continue supporting a mission that is so closely connected to both my career and my heart.
