MY WHY IS GREATER!
Every year, each step I take echoes the weight of the memories I carry. Memories of women who have filled my life with love and laughter, are now just a bittersweet echo in my heart.
My reason for walking in the Heart Walk is a deeply personal one, one that still causes a lump to form in my throat whenever I speak of it. It is a story of the loss of battling against the cruel hand that fate has dealt to my family. I walked for my paternal grandmother, Margaret Chambers, and my dear aunt, Robin Green.
In 2023, my why became greater! My mother, my heart, and the soul of our family had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It was a diagnosis that shattered our world, leaving us grappling with the harsh reality of her limited time with us. Despite the grim prognosis, my mother faced each day with a quiet strength that left me in awe.
As the cancer ravaged her body, it unleashed a barrage of complications. One of the cruelest blows came in the form of strokes, the result of thrombi in her heart. Each stroke stole a piece of her vitality, leaving her frail and vulnerable. Yet, through it all, her spirit remained unbroken.
I watched helplessly as my mother fought against the relentless assault on her body. She endured countless treatments and therapies, each one taking its toll. Yet, she never wavered in her determination to live each day to the fullest.
My why is now greater. I walk this year as a symbol of my mother's resilience, a testament to her unwavering courage in the face of adversity. It is a way for me to honor her memory and channel my grief into something positive.
As I join the sea of walkers, each step I take will have a greater purpose. With every beat of my heart, I hope to feel my mother's presence guiding me forward. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Together, we walk in solidarity, united in our mission to raise awareness and support for heart health. With each donation, we honor the memory of those we have lost and pledge to fight against the diseases that threaten to tear our loved ones away from us.
I know my mom, my mama, and my aunt Robin are watching over me with pride. I promise to carry on their legacy of love and strength, one step at a time.
LOVE TO THOSE I LOVE!
