My friends‘ daughter Sarah was diagnosed with long QT syndrome at age 5 and was placed on beta blockers and had continued clean bills of health. Very aware of her condition, Sarah had always been very responsible with her heart health. She was a junior at the University of Pennsylvania, and had been involved in AED training and teaching CPR since she was an elementary school and was in the process of bringing CPR training to Penn. That is why her family was in total shock when they lost her at age 21 to sudden cardiac arrest after drinking a large, charged lemonade from Panera, unaware of its caffeine and other stimulant contents which if she knew, she never would have consumed.
I had planned on supporting and walking with my friends this Thursday, but with all that has happened over the past few months, I totally forgot about it. Now that Tom has too passed away from a heart related condition, endocarditis, I feel even more dedicated to supporting my friends’ efforts in raising awareness and helping to continue Sarah's legacy of healthy heart education along with the American Heart Association. We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that. Wont you please help me in this endeavor?
