I walk because I know that with every step, I am helping to save lives.
At 14yrs old my sons life changed in a split second. After playing in his highschool basket ball game he suffered a syncopal episode. He was transported to Albany Medical Center via ambulance. After a few days of being in the hospital, abnormal testing, elevated heart rates, and abnormal electrophysiology studies he was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome Type 1. Brugada Syndrome is a primary electrical disorder characterized by ST segement elevation with right bundle branch block morphology in patients with apparent individuals to ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation (VT/VF) and sudden cardiac death (SCD). There is no cure for Brugada syndrome, it is treated/managed by medication and an Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator. At 14yrs old Cody had to stop the highschool sports he enjoyed, and have a cardiac defibrillator placed in his chest. Since placement, the defibrillator has had to shock his heart back into a normal sinus rhythm. If there was no such thing as a defibrillator there is a good chance my son wouldnt be here with me today.
We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that. Will you help me?
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today.
Respectfully and sincerely,
Christine Palmer.
