I walk because Heart disease has touched the lives of those I love.
My father had a successful triple by-pass which allowed him to live a longer and fuller life. My cousin became a heart surgeon because he had lost his mother to heart disease. Unfortunately, he also was taken by heart disease while pioneering the artificial heart and the heart by-pass machine. One of the newest members to my family was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome before he was born. He is now two and has two open-heart surgeries and a heart catheterization. Without heart research this beautiful little boy may not be with us today.
