Hi All!
It's that time of year again for the AHA Heart Walk. Here is a reminder of our story.
Matt was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the age of 15 during a routine sports physical. By the age of 25, Matt had developed atrial fibrillation and his first ICD was implanted at the age of 29. Since than, Matt has had two additional ICD surgeries. In 2023, Matt suffered from ventricular fibrillation and thanks to his device administering a shock, his life was saved. His doctors estimated that he would have had less than a 10% chance of survival without his device. (P.S. In true Matt fashion, he drank some water and went back to work after that). HCM is often hereditary so our kids will be monitored for life for their heart health.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this. ?
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death. ?
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.?
We Walk to Save Lives... including potentially those of our own children. Help us reach our goal today.?
