2026 Rochester Heart Walk & Run
MSDU Marauders
Ok Marauders and RTs, 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this. We've all been trained and we take that for granted. But we are great motivators to get others trained.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
Knowing CPR changes these outcomes!
Example: A young couple at home relaxing, your partner all of a sudden goes down. You rush to see what the H' happened. You get no response!! Now what?? Your training kicks in and you start the proccees...Breathing? Pulse? No breathing...No pulse!! Call for help.. 911 on speaker. 2 breaths... start compressions... 30-2, 911 anwsers.. sending help. Continue quality CPR... 15 min...help arrives and they take over... Mercy Flight later and some cardiac intervention and the spouse makes it!!
All because your spouse got the life saving training for CPR!! We work with the survivor... This is why we walk...Lets get more people to walk with us.. Ask a friend, get a donation.
A Dad is opening his Above Ground Swimming Pool in May. Just in time for Memorial Day Celebrations! Cover is off, cleaning the leaves and gunk out of the green colored water.. His 4 year old riding his bike up and down the driveway. It's a warm sunny May day..Phone rings. Dad runs inside the house to take the call... Pool Ladder is down. Dad comes back outside to continue cleaning. His son's bike is in the drive-way. Empty. Calls for his son. No response. Yells to his wife in the house. Not there. Then it hits... Ladder is down....he didn't!!
Dad Runs up the ladder and in the green haze of the water is his son's lifeless body floating just under the surface. He yells for help as he jumps in the water to retreve his son. As he pulls his son out of the water his trainning kicks in. Rolls him over. water pours out of his mouth. Gives two breaths. Checks for a pulse. No Pulse! Gives compressions on the pool deck. 2 more breaths and a cough... a cough and a gasp.. his son is back.
Off to the hospital but Dad saved him by using his CPR training he took. He took it because he had kids..WE HAVE KIDS. FRIENDS HAVE KIDS. WE WALK FOR THEM. THEY ALL NEED TO KNOW CPR!
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
For me the training was used at home...This New Years Eve dinner. Sitting at the dinning room table with all the trimings.. Great conversations. Laughing, joking eating great food. Especially the Delmonico Steak.. Oh that steak.. my daughter was eating her steak when she turns to me in terror! Laughing, the steak went down the wrong pipe!! She stood up abruptly and grab her throat with both hands! Classic choking sign. I stood up behind her and with a quick Heimlich Manuver the steak popped out and all was well. Had it been in a setting that no one had American Heart Assoc CPR training the outcome might not have been as good. And I would not have gotten extra Delmonico Steak!! This why I walk. The people i tell the stories of above are friends. I'm sure you all have stories as well..
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today by joining our team or donating towards our goal. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers. Lets get this group together and do This. Go MSDU Marauders!!
