
I run because at the age of 4, I was diagnosed with a rare heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW). At the time, this condition either required open heart surgery or for me to be on medication for the rest of my life. It would have also limited what I would be able to do atheletically as I wouldn't have been able to play sports or expose myself to strenuous activity.
My parents were determined to find another solution, and after many hours in the library searching different news articles (pre-Google days!) they found a doctor who was performing an alternative, minimally invasive procedure which was extremely new at the time.
