Hi there and thanks for visiting my fundraising page! The banner on my page says "I'm a survivor" but I prefer the term "Thriver!"
This year marks the third year in a row that I am FORTUNATE to be participating in the Heart and Stroke Walk to raise money for the American Heart Association .
It's hard for me to believe but three years ago I was laying in a hosptial bed being told that I was lucky to be alive as I was told that I had Congestive Heart Failure. As you can imagine, hearing those words were devastating but I refused to give up.
It has been a long journey back. I went through cardiac rehab to learn how to exercise and to strengthen my heart. I changed my lifestyle, worked hard, went to numerous appointments, and received various therapies which included a couple of procedures and the implantation of an ICD. If you are interested in what that is, I have a link here.
Even with COVID-19, Heart Disease is the number one cause of death in the US. Not only that, but only 10% of the people who experience a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital survive! I'm here due to the medical advances that have been made as well as the caring efforts of many doctors and nurses along the way.
I also walk in memory of my brother and my Mother, both of whom I lost to heart disease.
Please give what you can and anything you can give is appreciated. I am giving back to help so that maybe someday, what happened to me does not have to happen to someone else. Don't forget, if your company has matching funds programs, please select the American Heart Association of Massachusetts.
Thanks so much!
