On October 28, 2018, our family was hit with a devastating loss. My brother, John Spezzaferro died of a heart attack. It was so unexpected and heartbreaking. He was only 43 and left behind his son, Massimo, 6, and his daughter, Gioia, 3. My dad suffered from heart related issues for a very long time, up until cancer took him. John and I knew we would need to keep a careful eye on our own hearts, but we never realized how silent a killer heart disease can be. We think of John every second of every minute of every day. We walk to remember him and my dad, and we want to help others to not suffer from this silent killer.
