My dad is why I give, support, and participate! He benefited from all the research and investment the AHA has made, and every year that number continues to grow. I hope that I, along with all the AHA staff and volunteers, can make a difference!
NYCM has supported the American Heart Association and the Utica walk for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until the disease hit my family that I really started to understand why it was so important.
In 2003, my father suffered a heart attack while our for a bike ride. We had just had an amazing family weekend camping and after getting everything back home and put away, I received the call. After visiting him in the ICU at Bassett Hospital, I realized this was serious, but I also realized how important it was that he only had to travel 15 minutes to a hospital that was able to treat him and allow him to enjoy his kids, grandkids and life.
