I walk for my mother and my mother-in-law, who both passed from congestive heart failure. I also walk for myself. For two years I suffered from periodic episodes of my heart racing so fast that I would be on the verge of passing out, and actually did pass out a couple of times. I never knew when an episode would come on and they were becoming more and more frequent. I went from doctor to doctor trying to find out what was wrong with me, undergoing many tests and wearing a heart monitor.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia and underwent a cardiac catheter ablation in 2006 at the age of 42. The catheter ablation did the trick and was the best thing I did for my sanity and my heart health.
I walk because I know that with every step, I'm making a difference in someone's life. And when combined with a million other Heart Walk Heroes across the nation, we have an even greater impact toward curing heart disease and stroke.
