Yes it is Arun again! It was TEN years ago, when I started my SECOND LIFE. I have often thought of that night when my family was sitting on the bed, holding hands and wondering if I will beat all odds and make it back to them. My son was in London and took the next plane to JFK and all throughout his journey, he did not know if he was going to see me again. These thoughts bring tears to my eyes.
It was April 2, 2014 when I had a level ten pain in my chest. My daughter, Dr. Asha Shah had me rushed to the Emergency room at Stamford Hospital. Dr. Carbonaro identified that my aorta had dissected and was bleeding. I had only 48 hours to live. Dr. Michael Coady told me that he had looked at the CAT scan results and if I did not do anything I would be dead in 48 hours. On the other hand, if I opted for a nine hour surgery, where he would take out my heart for 19 minutes, there was a 38% chance that I would die on the operating table. In the background my daughter Dr. Asha Shah was saying “Dad you are going for surgery”.
So, I did beat the odds and ever since have cherished each and every moment of my life with my family and friends. I exercise and walk 7,500 steps every day to keep myself fit. I love to travel to places far and near. I am blessed with the best kids on earth and have shared some very special moments with them. My grandkids make life worth living. A hug and a smile from them motivate me to keep going.
I am convinced that it is the scientific research in the medical field that makes a difference between life and death. Many thanks to the heart disease research and support by the American Heart Association that I am here, writing once again to you.
I personally invite my family and friends to join my “Second Life” team for the 2024 Fairfield County Heart Walk & 5k Run on Saturday May 18th at Sherwood Island State Park, in Westport, CT. We will have fun while participating in a great cause.
Please donate to the American Heart Association with me and do not forget the matching grants from your company.
