I am thrilled to be walking again this year, thanks to your incredible support over the past 11 years. I prepare for this event every day by walking at least 7500 steps. Since I started walking for this cause in 2014 I have logged in more than 26 million steps so far and I hope I can continue doing this.
Here I am again, raising funds for the American Heart Association. Each year my story is a reminder of the power of hope and importance of heart health. It was April 2, 2014, and I had just come home from swimming and finished having a salad. I got a level ten pain in my chest and I was rushed to the Emergency Room at Stamford Hospital. It turned out to be an aortic aneurism and I went thru surgery with a 38% of dying on the table. Several times I have thought of that night when my family was sitting on the bed, holding hands and wondering if I will beat all odds and make it back to them. My son was in London and took the next plane to JFK and all throughout his journey, he did not know if he was going to see me again. I was lucky to have the best team of doctors who saved me and gave me a second life. God felt that my mission on earth was not quite finished as now I am blessed with six grandchildren. “Life is Good”!
My story is a testament to hope, and I share it to inspire others facing similar challenges. I am here today because of the American Heart Association’s research in aneurysm. That is why I am passionate about raising funds for them. Heart disease affects one in three Americans, and tragically, 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year. But we can change that.
Join us on May 10th and be a part of making a life-saving difference at Sherwood Island State Park, in Westport, CT.
