I want to thank you for supporting the American Heart Association’s mission for longer, healthier lives. Because of supporters like you, our son is our superhero.
Sammy was born with Coarctation of the Aorta, mitral valve stenosis, bicuspid aortic valve, and a sub-aortic membrane. We were told that he would require open heart surgery to survive.
Sammy stayed in the hospital for treatment to keep his heart functioning until surgery. One of the nurses nicknamed him Super Sammy. It was a fitting nickname. Sammy had open heart surgery at 9 days old.
Now Sammy is an outgoing seven year-old. The possibility of future interventions exists, but we celebrate every milestone and have faith for a full, active life for Sammy.
We are thankful for the American Heart Association and the medical advancements made possible by supporters like you. We are thankful for every single heartbeat.
