My Family is Why!
When I started at Medtronic in 2009, we decided to put together a small team to walk in the Boston Heart Walk, and despite the rainy weather that year, we enjoyed being a part of something so significant. The following year we signed up to be a sponsor, which made a lot of sense, since we were a medical device manufacturer, producing the #1 Guide Catheter for cardiovascular procedures. Over the past decade the Boston Heart Walk has been a constant for us, even during the pandemic, when we led teams of employees through our facility parking lot to continue the important mission.
But in 2019 my reason for walking changed. My father is a heart disease survivor and I now walk in honor of him. He is a very strong man, but even the strongest need help, and that is what the American Heart Association's mission is, to provide the help and awareness for anyone facing these obstacles. Every dollar I raise, and every step that I take is for my dad. This walk is now very personal.
The Heart Walk is a time of celebration, joy, and inspiration. It's also an event where people work together to support one single goal - to create a world free of heart disease and stroke.
2024 is the 100th Anniversary of the American Heart Association and as not only a participant, but as a new member of the Boston Heart Walk Executive Leadership Team, I am even more excited about the great things to come!
