Once again, I've registered for the 2021 Philadelphia Heart Walk supporting the American Heart Association. This year, however, is very special, as my children, living in PA, London, and Alaska are all walking with Bill and me... virtually!! We're calling ourselves the "Worldwide Walkers" and supporting Bryn Mawr Hospital's "Cardiac Rehab Heart and Soles". This incredible group, including family members, nurses and exercise physiologists, was instrumental in getting me back on my feet after my open-heart surgery in 2017. It's been four years since that life-altering experience, but considering my family history, maybe I should have been more prepared for the possibility! Technology, today's medical practices, and education saved my life. Sadly, I lost my Mom -- my personal heart hero -- in November of 2020, just a few weeks before her 91st birthday. I can only hope to live the incredible life she lived, despite her own cardio-vascular issues. I'm sure she is walking with us this year! So, yes, this is personal! Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the USA, killing someone, on average, every 36 seconds. You can help me surpass my modest goal of $500 by making a donation today. Even the smallest amount can make a big difference. When you donate to my Heart Walk campaign, you get something back that's priceless - satisfaction knowing your donation helped fund research that could cure heart disease and stroke. It means the lives of more moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and babies will be saved and that quality of life will improve for all those affected. Hearts everywhere will thank you as your gift truly has the power to save lives by funding the research that keeps real, human hearts beating. Who doesn't want that?
My shoes are laced up and I'm ready to participate with my team of "Worldwide Walkers" for Cardiac Rehab's "Heart and Soles". Knowing our children will be joining us in this endeavor is heart-warming! If you're receiving this letter, I already know you're a kind and generous person, so you already know about the joy we all receive from giving. This gift will also bring life to so many others. Thank you, in advance, for your heartfelt donation. The official date of the walk is November 6th, but donations can be made anytime!
I thank you profusely from the bottom of my heart! Marybeth
