Usually, when we get involved in a health issue-related organization for fundraising, it is because we’ve personally been affected by the health issue. In the case of the American Heart Association, I got involved on my firm’s leadership execs for the 2022 Heart Challenge simply because they asked and it was a good way to dig in at Cushman & Wakefield. As you all know, I changed firms and I have had such a positive experience, so I said YES!
As part of my involvement, I organized a discussion on Women’s Heart Health with the Head of Cardiology at NYU in February, hosted a webinar and learned a lot about heart disease, what things to look for…it is not just for men. I also recently attended an event where I got a refresher on CPR and learned about defibrillators. Maybe my new awareness of heart health will make a difference for me or someone that I love…or even a stranger in cardiac arrest.
At 56, I am looking to do all of the small things to keep myself healthy. I’ve been really impressed with the American Heart Association’s work and donated $5,000 this year to the 2022 Heart Challenge. My goal is to raise enough donations to double that. I hope that you can join me in the effort.
Remember:
- Mediterrean diets have a place in heart health
- At your next physical, ask your doctor to check your Lipoprotein A – this has new focus as an indictor of your GENETIC disposition toward atherosclerosis which can lead to a stroke
- KEEP MOVIN’ – 75 mins of high intensity exercise or 150 mins of low intensity per week…so even a few decent walks each week are helping your heart
Thanks for being Heart Healthy!
