I walk for my son, Cole. Awareness of congenital heart defects and other cardiac conditions is the only way that funding for breakthroughs in prevention and treatment will be obtained.
Just a few days after Cole's birth, Cole was taken to the ER because he was having difficulty breathing. We noticed he was experiencing chest retractions and to be honest, we were scared. Cole would eventually be transported by Critical Care Ambulance to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for further evaluations and testing. I will never forget the moment that the joy of having our second child turned to fear and thought that our little one's life was in jeopardy.
I walk because I hope with every step, that one less parent has to hear that their child's life is in danger because of a heart defect.
Cole was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot and underwent life-saving surgery just five months later. Those five months were the scariest time of our lives.
However, we are the lucky ones. Cole continues to grow and is a vibrant two year old now. He continues to thrive everyday (and surely keeps us on our toes). His family, friends, doctors, physical therapist and speech pathologist continue to stand by his side as he continues to make strides everyday. He is a Heart Warrior and our Heart Hero.
This is our story, but we're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that. Will you help me?
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives.
