My daughter Clover was born with a congenital heart defect and went through her first open heart surgery in September, she'll be having another open heart surgery next year. My stepdad Jake had a cardiac bypass surgery many years ago that probably bought him an extra 20 years of life. My niece Taylor had multiple cardiac surgeries when she was very young and is now a healthy adult. An army of doctors, nurses and other health professionals helped to keep my family members alive, and organizations like the AHA helped so much with research, education, and funding.
