Now It's Personal!
I began participating in the local Heart Walk supporting The American Heart Association several years ago through work. Why? Because we all know someone who has been affected by heart disease, heart attack or stroke. Then routine tests and a CT scan showed that I have Coronary artery calcification or CAC. That got my attention. Age, gender and genetics play a part in who and when CAC could develop. Hypertension and high cholesterol play a part too. Any way you look at it calcification of aortic valves could lead to more serious issues down the road if ignored. There's no established treatment for CAC to date, but medication, proper nutrition and a more active lifestyle are strongly suggested as a means of managing CAC. So now I'm taking steps and working to improve my health. There's no better way for me than by and supporting the Heart Walk.
