Miles for Mary
On August 11, 2021, the world has lost one of its brightest lights.
Mary St. Germain was a beloved peer, employee, and friend. Mary positively impacted the lives of every single person that knew her, whether that was the result of the thoughtful care and attention she gave to her work efforts, or through her infectious laugh and warm smile. She was the definition of a generous spirit who knew no bounds, willing to help anyone with anything at any time.
Mary enjoyed an accomplished career as the leader of SEFCU’s Facility Operations department. She took tremendous pride in her work, and consistently went “above and beyond” to ensure that the needs of her team and those she served across the organization were satisfied. She was a true collaborator and dedicated professional respected by all for the “can-do” attitude she brought to her role.
While her career was important, family was always first and foremost. She was a devoted spouse, mother, and sister…and, more recently, a very proud grandmother. Mary took great care of those closest to her, and will be best remembered and admired for her kindness and generosity.
She was very active, and those of us at the office would often find her taking her lunch breaks on either the indoor or outdoor walking track. However, two days before her death, she suffered a massive heart attack.
Mary’s passing was sudden and unexpected. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the nation's leading killer of women, and 90% have one or more risk factors for heart disease at some point in their lives. Yet 80% of cardiovascular diseases are preventable.
In Mary’s memory and in support of the tremendous work the AHA continues to do in the fight against heart disease, we're asking for you to support our “Miles for Mary” fundraising effort! At this years Capital Region Heart Walk & 5k Run on June 5th, our Team Captain (Chris Duwe) is running an additional 23.1 miles before the official start of the race, for a total of 26.2! While that distance may not match all those laps Mary logged on the walking track, our hope is it will inspire the level of generosity she was known for.
Please consider making either a per-mile or flat donation - doing so will help keep Chris moving and, more importantly, will fund the research necessary to help people live longer, healthier lives!
We can all say that our lives are better for having known Mary. Thank you for your incredible support!
