On April 8, 2018 my healthy, thin active 52 year old father developed chest pain while in the gym. After sensing that this was something more serious than reflux or a pulled muscle it was determined that he was experiencing an acute myocardial infarction . He was quickly taken to the cath lab and underwent stent placement to reopen the affected vessels. He is doing well now and recovering but this event can happen to anyone.
My family has enjoyed 4 healthy years.
My mom and I wrote a book for children whose parents have gone through a heart attack and required cardiac interventions.
In 2019 I was the recipient of the Horizons Award through the American Heart Association. It was to acknowledge my work over the years. After our incredible turnout last year, our team received the Heart of the Community Award meaning that we were the team that raised the most money.
My dad is now an avid Peloton user and he and I exercise regularly.
We are so happy to be able to walk outside in September.
Past years were difficult with COVID but we look forward to getting back to working with the American Heart Association.
To date we have raised over $30,000 for the American Heart Association. We hope to add to that this year! In addition to our increase in the amount of money that we have raised, many more families have been able to join us at the walk. We also hope to increase that again in September.
Hope you all can join the team.
Thanks for your support.
