2022 Philadelphia Heart Walk

On March 21, 2022, as I was returning from a ski weekend with my son in Colorado, I suffered a plaque fracture in one of my main coronary vessels, causing a massive heart attack.
On our way home from the airport, I insisted my wife get me to the ER at the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. An hour later, as I was wheeled into the catheterization lab for an emergency procedure, my heart stopped and I went into full arrest. After 8 defibrillator shocks, 25 minutes of CPR and the ECMO unit hooked up to run my heart, I was resuscitated - the problem artery was cleared and 2 stents inserted. After 4 broken ribs, 2 punctured lungs, an induced coma for 9 days to let my heart recover and 15 days at HUP, I was able to go home and begin my road to recovery.
A few months later, I am healing quickly, doing well, and enjoying the gift of a second life. The staff at HUP had the experience and resources to ensure that I was able to survive this frightening episode.
Now, what can I do to help give back? Saving and improving lives can be as simple as taking a walk. I'm making a difference in the lives of others by participating in the Heart Walk.
But it's not just my efforts alone that will one day help us see a world free of heart disease and stroke. I am walking with a team of heart heros because together, we will have an even greater impact. And you can help us change the world, one step at a time, by donating to my fundraiser.
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that keeps hearts beating and helps people enjoy longer, healthier lives. I can't do it alone.
Please help me now by donating. Because every step counts. And together we are helping save lives!
