Our Unit at Penn Medicine, the Heart & Vascular ICU, has seen first hand how heart disease affects our community. We are coming together with the American Heart Association to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke in the USA. 

One of our dedicated Nurses, Rebecca Narr, has a special story to share.

  • We will be coming together again to celebrate my mom in the American Heart Association Annual Heart Walk. 5 Years ago my mom was diagnosed with heart failure and had a gold ball sized clot in her heart, forcing her heart to only pump at 5-10%. After being flowin to Hospital of Pennsylvania( HUP), she suffered a transient (mini) stroke and had to undergo open heart surgery Thanksgiving morning. My mom's team of surgeons, doctors, and nurses described her as a miracle because after her surgery her heart started beating on its own, which they did not expect. This Year, we will be joinning teams with the Heart & Vascular ICU at HUP. This is the unit that I hacve the privelage of working on and the unit that saved my mom's life. All Donations go towards the American Heart Association which funds research, education, and furthers cardiovascular care. We hope to see you at the heart walk!
