In October 2024 I had open heart surgery to trim a valve and remove the obstruction that occured because of my genetic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM is a common genetic condition, but it often goes undiagnosed, particularly in young adults. This can lead to life-threatening sudden cardiac arrest, ending young lives too early. Thankfully that is not my story, but raising funds for the AHA will lead to more early diagnoses!
You'll notice that the name of my team is "Bull Hearted", that's because the gene that causes my HCM comes from the Bull side of my family, and I'm not alone in this heart disease journey. My father, brothers, nephew, and cousin all have the gene and symptoms due to HCM. I am thankful for the love and community in my family as we walk our own paths of HCM together.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today by joining our team or donating towards our goal. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
