Team Healing Hearts of South Jersey is proud to be an American Heart Association Community Team.
We walk to raise awareness, promote early screening, and support critical research for the most common birth defect in America — Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs).
1 in every 110 children is born with a CHD — that's approximately 40,000 babies each year in the U.S.
More than 50% of children born with a CHD will require at least one invasive surgery during their lifetime. And while medical advancements continue, there is currently no cure.
About 25% of babies with a CHD need surgery or procedures within their first year of life.
Today, more than 1.8 million adults are living with CHDs and depend on lifelong cardiac care.
CHDs are the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths, yet research remains significantly underfunded.
Thanks to the progress made through funding and advocacy, over 85% of babies born with a CHD now survive into adulthood. But survival is only the beginning — lifelong care, ongoing research, and awareness are essential.
The cause of most CHDs is still unknown, which is why continued research is so vital.
Join us in the fight. Come walk with us and make a difference.
