In February of 2013 I got a text from my 57 year old dad bragging about running an 8 minute mile, 2 hours later I got a call from my mom that he had passed away of a pulmonary embolism. That day I had a million questions running through my head but the most prevalent was not being able to fathom how was it possible that someone as healthy he was, someone who worked out every day could be a victim of heart disease.
That day, I lost my best friend. A quote he always told my sister and I was that "Adversity was a given in life, it's how you respond to it that makes the difference." and from that day forward we have done our best to live this out everyday. We are responding by raising awareness that even healthy people can have heart disease, we are responding by raising money for research that can detect and treat these problems before someone else loses their best friend, and we are responding by enjoying everyday we are given and living a life that we know he would be proud of.
Help support our team! You can join Connor and myself and participate in the 9 mile race, participate in the half marathon/5k or donate to our cause. I appreciate you taking the time to read my story and with your help we can help give longer lives to all those with heart disease.
