5 days after Makayla was born, I was readmitted into the hospital for post-partum preeclampsia. Besides just feeling "off", my main symptom was extreme nausea. By the time I finally went to the hospital, my blood pressure was 226/118.
I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone, but unfortunately I've seen it happen to too many friends since then. There is so little that is still known about why this happens to mothers, but I think there is an opportunity to educate ourselves on what symptoms to watch out for
- vision changes
- severe headaches
- upper right quadrant pain
- shortness of breath
- nausea/vomiting
- rapid swelling - especially in hands/face
- BP over 140/90
I was pretty excited when I learned that the American Heart Association started an Initiative in Nashville that provides High-Risk Pregnant Women with Free Blood Pressure Kits.
This year I am doing the Vanderbilt Heart Walk - Make an impact in the fight against heart disease by supporting me at the 2024 Greater Nashville Heart Walk!
