Four years ago, if you had asked me about heart disease, I would have said it was a terrible thing that happened to older people. I didn't know much about it, I didn't have a personal connection to it, and quite honestly, it just never crossed my mind. I did Jump Rope for Heart growing up, but that was as close as I had come to thinking about 'heart health'.

That all changed on January 9, 2021, when our first child was born. Within 24 hours, she was intubated and on a helicopter headed to Charlotte, NC. At 3 days old, she had her first open heart surgery to repair her heart defect that she had been born with.

We now take every chance we get to advocate and bring awareness to CHD and heart disease. Our daughter, Charley, is living with heart disease and she will for the rest of her life. Bringing awareness to these issues, raising money for future research, and helping these babies and adults live longer lives is SO IMPORTANT.
