There are so many reasons to commit to funding heart health research and care in my work, my family, and my own life.
Working for Duke Health has given me the privilege and access to see life-saving research in action, and a renewed gratitude to those working day in and out to make a difference in both research and life-saving medical care. To support those I work alongside is an honor I'd be remiss to pass by.
When I was pregnant with my son, ultrasounds indicated there may have been defects his heart that required close monitoring. Throughout my visits to my fetal cardiologist, I was impressed with the science and care that was provided to my son while he was still in the womb. That period of my life held so much gravity for the sacred work of heart health.
As a woman, I am keenly aware that heart disease kills women more than all cancers combined (!!!). I also know that as someone who experience high-blood pressure during my pregnancy, my odds for heart disease are increased. I am committed to protecting my own heart health for a long and happy life, and want to make sure the women around me have avenues to do the same.
Follow your (happy, healthy) heart to fund life-saving research and care.
