Help me be a Heart Walk Hero!
In 2019, I was preparing to run a 5K but I noticed I was expereiencing some chest pain and a strange numbing in my jaw. I thought I was just out of shape. I would just walk it off and ignore it. It was during the 5k on July 4th, 2019 that I realized I could not ignore it any longer so I went to the doctor. It was July 10th when they rushed me to the hospital to perform a heart catheter procedure. I had 80% blockage in my left anterior descending artery, also known as "the widow maker". I recieved a heart stent during that procedure that saved my life.
I was totally unaware of the blockage and hadn't experienced any prior issues that would lead me to believe I had a heart problem. It was so scary, but I was blessed to have caught it in time and embarrassed that I ignored it, just hoping it would go away.
I walk to raise awareness. I walk to make sure no one else tries to "walk it off". I walk to make sure women especially understand the warning signs and seek treatment.
It makes me so happy to raise funds for this organization knowing that those funds fuel research that could cure heart disease and strokes.
