I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
Less than one year ago, kidney stones literally saved my life. I was taken to the emergency room for treatment late fall of last year. It was discovered through an accidental finding on a CT scan that I had an aortic aneurysm along with a leaking valve. l didn't fully grasp how sick I was at that time. That would come days later. I spent many days and hours at Piedmont Hospital seeing a cardiologist and a cardio thoracic surgeon. The end of 2023 was a total blur leading up to my open heart surgery on January 15, 2024.
Dr. William Morris Brown III and his amazing staff at Piedmont Hospital led us through our journey one appointment at a time. They were kind, caring and the best healthcare providers I could have asked for. My family and I are eternally grateful for the phenomenal care I received before, during and after my open heart surgery.
More than 7 months post surgery, my heart health is great. I've recovered with the love and support of family and friends. My family, especially my children, will forever be changed by my illness. I will never know why this happened , but I do know I'm extremely fortunate.
Our family's mission is to raise funds for more research and advancement in cardiac/cardiovascular medicine.
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives.
This year, as we celebrate the Centennial of the American Heart Association, we will move health and well-being forward in important and critical ways. This relentless pursuit will continue until heart disease and stroke no longer exist. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and my family in this journey. We are forever grateful!
