I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
With a longstanding family history of heart issues, I was diagnosed with hypertension at a young age. At only 18, I began taking medication every single day to keep my heart healthy. Using this as a catalyst for change in my life, I embarked on a healthy journey from that day forward. At 23, I was officially approved by doctors to stop my medication and have been off of it ever since. There is power in education and awareness. I would not be where I am today without the education from the AHA and the support of those around me. With education and awareness, we have the power to prevent cardiovascular disease and stroke in those that we love.
When you donate to the American Heart Association, you are joining the fight against our nation's No. 1 and No. 5 killers - heart disease and stroke. Your donation helps us fund lifesaving research, advocate for healthier communities, improve patient care, and work for equitable health for all people to keep hearts beating and help people live longer, healthier lives.
