This is the 10th year Team Shane-O will be raising money and walking the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. Here is my story and why I've chosen to fundraise for this organization...
On October 26th, 2013, I was 7 months pregnant and attending my own baby shower, when I received the phone call that shattered my world. The call was to inform me that my husband, Shane, who was attending a college football game at the time, had collapsed and died. We later found out that he suffered from Sudden Cardiac Death brought on by Coronary Artery Disease. Shane was just 34 years old, looked to be very healthy from the outside, and with no family history of heart problems and no symptoms, his death was completely unexpected.
Two months later, on December 27th, I gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Abigail Eve. She brought, and continues to bring, so much love and light back into my life. I decided to start this team in 2014 to not only raise money for a cause so near and dear to my heart, but to also bring people together to celebrate life and to honor Shane and the life he lived.
To date, Team Shane-O has raised over $60,000 for the AHA. Please consider joining our team and/or making a donation. Every dollar counts and will help the AHA to save and improve many lives with research, education, and emergency care.
Here are some facts about Heart Disease that I was very unaware of before all of this:
-Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the US.
-Heart disease is an umbrella term that includes conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart attack, cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure, and congenital heart diseases.
-Heart disease accounts for 40% of all U.S. deaths, more than all forms of cancer combined.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the walk!!!
