I was once asked my “Why” for raising funds for an organization. I thought it an interesting question at the time because I thought, “Isn’t raising funds for an organization that help others supposed to be a good thing?”. It wasn’t until later that I fully thought about it and understood the question. You can raise funds for any organization, but if you raise funds for an organization that you are connected to or means something to you, imagine what you could do for them. So, what is my “Why” you ask, for raising funds for the American Heart Association’s 2024 Heart Walk? My “Why” . . . is my Dad.
Not too long ago, my Dad felt off. For days, and even a few weeks he just didn’t feel well. Not really sick, but something wasn’t right. He had very little energy and struggled with even basics tasks throughout the day. He thought he was just coming down with something so he didn’t do anything about. Until one day he finally realized it wasn’t going away. After several tests and some time wearing a heart monitor, the doctor told him he needed to do a heart cath to explore what was really going on inside. The basic heart cath didn’t show anything, but the doctor persisted because he knew there was something more. Thankfully he did, because around the next turn, the doctor found it. He had 2 arteries that were about 70% blocked. Wow!! What could have happened if his doctor didn’t keep fighting for him and keep exploring to find the truth? A few weeks later, he was in the hospital for double by-pass surgery and is now one-month into his recovery.
If it wasn’t for the technology we have today and if it wasn’t for his doctor going above and beyond to figure out what was wrong, my Dad might not be here today.
So, my husband & I are raising funds for the American Heart Association’s 2024 Heart Walk to honor my Dad, the great doctors that have kept him alive and for all the other mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, husbands and wives that the American Heart Association’s research and advocacy for heart health have contributed to keeping them alive.
Join me in celebrating all that American Heart Association does for our families by sponsoring Dan & I in the upcoming 2024 American Heart Association Heart Walk! We truly appreciate your love, support and contribution.
